More than half of U.S. employers state that mobile phone use is one of the biggest productivity killers in the workplace, with 55 per cent of people taking breaks to check social media or stay in touch with friends. Our natural hyper-awareness could be affecting our ability to focus on one task at a time. With so many distractions around, it is easy to take the eye off the ball so what can you do to improve your concentration and increase your output at work?
Believe In Yourself
Being productive and succeeding in your role can be achieved simply by having more confidence in yourself. Think about what you have already achieved to get your role and surround yourself with people who believe in your abilities. Those who are given more tasks to do by others, who believe in them, are more likely to put in extra effort and concentration to be successful in delivering. Studies have also shown that engaging in rituals can increase confidence when approaching challenging tasks so ensure you make your morning coffee or repeat that mantra every day to become a high achiever.
Be Determined
Setting yourself realistic goals and ways you can achieve them is one way to stay determined to succeed. Believing you can be more productive is not enough to achieve higher levels of concentration, so you will have to want to make your goals happen. Make a list of why you want to achieve your goals and why they are important to you in the short, and long term. Refuse to be hindered by obstacles, instead see them as a new challenge and try to learn something new from them. Can concentrating on a small task help you achieve one of your long-term goals? Asking these questions can help you become more productive, more regularly.
Remain Motivated
Motivation can diminish when your original goals are achieved and your tasks begin to feel more mundane. However, simply making the decision to be optimistic about everything you do can create the perfect mindset for optimum concentration. Setting smaller goals along the way can also keep your motivation up and help you focus on achieving them. Ask for advice from peers and managers on how they got to where they are and you will be amazed to find that they were more productive just by being their own inspiration.
Try out some of these tips along with some light meditation and relaxation to relieve stress and you will find it easier to be more confident and productive at work as well as at home.
